Recombinant Murine Interleukin-15

IL-15 (Interleukin 15) is a cytokine that regulates T and NK cell activation and proliferation. It shares many biological activities with IL-2 due to its ability to bind common hematopoietin receptor subunits and potentially compete for the same receptor, thereby negatively regulating each other's activity. The balance between IL-15 and IL-2 controls the number of CD8+ memory cells. IL-15 induces JAK kinase activation and phosphorylation/activation of transcription activators STAT3, STAT5, and STAT6. In mouse studies, IL-15 may increase expression of apoptosis inhibitor Bcl-xL, possibly via STAT6 transcription activation, thus preventing apoptosis. IL-15 plays a vital role in the growth and differentiation of T and B lymphocytes, NK cells, macrophages, and monocytes, as well as the activation of key intracellular signaling molecules. Consequently, IL-15 is essential for immune responses, allograft rejection, and autoimmune disease pathogenesis. It is a widely expressed pro-inflammatory cytokine implicated in several inflammatory disorders, including rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, and pulmonary inflammatory diseases. Emerging data suggest that IL-15 may be an effective therapeutic target, as neutralization appears beneficial in models of psoriasis and diabetes.

Further dilutions should be made in appropriate buffered solutions.
