Recombinant Murine Beta-defensin 3

Defensins are small (2-6 kDa), cationic peptides essential for innate immunity. Mammalian defensins are categorized into alpha, beta, and theta based on size and disulfide patterns. Beta-defensins, expressed by leukocytes and epithelial cells, feature a six-cysteine motif forming three intra-molecular disulfide bonds. Their positive charge enables strong interaction with negatively charged microbial membranes (LPS in Gram-negative and LTA in Gram-positive bacteria), leading to membrane disruption and microbial death. Moreover, beta-defensins act as chemokines, attracting monocytes, T-lymphocytes, dendritic cells, and mast cells, thus bridging innate and adaptive immunity.

Reconstitute in a sterile distilled water or aqueous buffer containing 0.1% BSA to a concentration of 0.1-1.0 mg/ml. Stock solutions should be apportioned into working aliquots and stored at ≤ -20℃. Further dilutions should be made in appropriate buffered solutions.
