 Recombinant Human Galectin-1

Recombinant Human Galectin-1, a prototype member of the galectin family, functions as a β-galactoside-binding lectin with immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties. It regulates cell growth biphasically, acting as a mitogen at low concentrations and an inhibitor of proliferation at higher levels. Critically, it induces selective apoptosis of activated T cells, particularly Th1 and Th17 subsets, while promoting Th2-mediated immune responses. This activity is mediated through interactions with CD3, CD4, and CD45, leading to suppression of proinflammatory cytokines. Its role in immune tolerance is highlighted by elevated expression in placental tissues and tumors, where it facilitates immune evasion and tissue remodeling. These functions underscore its therapeutic potential in autoimmune and inflammatory diseases.

Reconstitute in a sterile distilled water or aqueous buffer containing 0.1% BSA to a concentration of 0.1-1.0 mg/ml. Stock solutions should be apportioned into working aliquots and stored at ≤ -20℃. Further dilutions should be made in appropriate buffered solutions.
